The Western Development Commission (WDC) is the statutory body set up to promote economic and social development in the Western Region of Ireland (Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway and Clare).
The WDC has the following strategic goals:
The WDC’s focus remains on collaborating with regional, national and international partners to enable job and enterprise growth in the Western Region. We develop projects in key areas such as tourism, creative industries, marine, renewable energy, technology and organic agri-food, and many more sectors identified for expansion.
By working closely with national government, we’ll ensure that government policy is directed at improving the social and economic situation in the region. In terms of financial assistance, we operate the Western Investment Fund (WIF) to provide loans and equity to business and local communities in the West
To date, we have launched many successful project initiatives focussing on specific economic growth goals and objectives. These have channelled significant funds into key regional sectors, supporting both employment and enterprise development.
RASLRES and Biopad were launched in recent years to harness the collective movement towards the use and application of Bioenergy.
